On 8 March 2023 we are introducing online programme forms for Performance Grades and digital ARSM diplomas. Instead of candidates showing a paper programme form to the camera at the start of the exam recording, the person submitting the video will enter the programme details online. Read our news story to find out how this will affect candidates and what you need to do. Find out more.
Guidance for remotely-assessed Performance Grades
Overview
- Candidates taking a remotely-assessed exam make a continuous video recording of their performance, which they submit using our online exam booking service.
- For Performance Grades, candidates perform four pieces – three from the syllabus and a fourth of their own choice. See the relevant syllabus for full information.
- Once uploaded, the exam recording is assessed and marked by a member of our examiner panel. We then issue the result and mark form online, followed by a certificate in the post for successful candidates.
Guidance for taking a remotely-assessed Performance Grade
You must read the full ‘Guidance for digital Performance Grade exams’ before you make any exam recordings. The full guidance document covers in detail how to record and submit a Performance Grade video.
Accompaniment in Performance Grades
From 1 August, Performance Grade candidates must have accompaniment when performing set pieces that are published with an accompaniment or duet part.
Based on our experience of assessing exams with recorded accompaniment during the pandemic, we are making this a permanent option for Performance Grades alongside live accompaniment. Candidates can choose to perform with live or recorded accompaniment or a mix of both.
Recorded accompaniment is only an option for Performance Grades. Candidates taking a digital ARSM must have live accompaniment.
